Mirch Plant

The Mirch Plant (Capsicum annuum) is a popular spice and vegetable crop belonging to the Solanaceae family. It is widely grown across India and other tropical countries for its pungent fruits, commonly known as chillies. The plant grows about 1–3 feet tall, bearing green leaves, small white flowers, and fruits that turn from green to red as they mature. Chillies thrive in warm climates with temperatures between 20°C and 35°C and require well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter. They need 6–8 hours of sunlight daily and moderate watering to keep the soil moist but not soggy. The fruits are harvested as green chillies for fresh use or left to ripen into red chillies for drying and powder making. Common varieties in India include Pusa Jwala, Byadgi, and Teja. Apart from their culinary use, chillies are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and capsaicin, which aids digestion, boosts metabolism, and offers several health benefits. Easy to grow in pots or gardens, the mirch plant is a valuable addition to any kitchen garden, providing continuous harvests of flavorful and spicy fruits.
