The Cauliflower Plant (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) is a popular cool-season vegetable grown worldwide for its edible white head, known as the curd. Belonging to the Brassicaceae family, it is closely related to cabbage, broccoli, and kale. The plant forms a compact head made of undeveloped flower buds surrounded by thick green leaves. Cauliflower grows best in cool climates, with an ideal temperature range of 15°C to 25°C. It prefers well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter and a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0. The crop requires full sunlight for at least 5–6 hours daily and regular watering to maintain even soil moisture. Seeds are usually sown in nursery beds and transplanted after 4–5 weeks. The curds are ready for harvest within 80–120 days, depending on the variety. Proper fertilization and pest control help ensure firm, white curds. Cauliflower is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and dietary fiber, supporting immunity and digestion. It can be eaten raw, cooked, or pickled and is a staple in many Indian dishes. Easy to cultivate and highly nutritious, the cauliflower plant is an excellent choice for both commercial and home gardeners.
